Before I had shot this photograph, it had been a while since I used a medium format camera. It was toward the end of the winter semester and a couple of us decided to head over the hill into Los Angeles and visit my lab so I could pick up a few developed rolls that were waiting for me. I had my friend's Mamiya C330 with me on this day to get back into the medium format swing of things.
After we had picked up my rolls, we went to Carney's on Sunset Blvd. to grab a bite to eat. Chili dogs were on our minds and Pink's was just too crowded. It was also cold on this day so we wanted to a place with indoor seating to stay warm.
Ever the character, I snapped this candid photograph of my friend Diego inside Carney's. 70% of the time he will give you an odd face when you photograph him. He must like you if you're a part of the lucky 30% where he provides a normal face.
