Because I don't own a car anymore, I utilize public transportation to get around. It isn't bad really. Los Angeles has come a long way in improving its public transportation, especially its light rail and subway systems. It's no New York, but it's getting better. Along with having the MTA being my main mode of transportation, I find myself inside many subway stations and a good amount of street photographs document people taking public transportation and just life as a commuter.
This photograph was taken at the Universal City Red Line subway station/metro hub. I love this photo for two reasons: I love the range of tones and because the lighting was pretty low, I was afraid my film's speed was a bit slow for the conditions so I gave it an extra stop or two of exposure which means a longer exposure on an already slow shutter speed that I had metered for the scene. Oh, also, the camera's built in meter is non-functional so I pretty much guesstimated it so when I saw no motion blur, I thought "YES!"
People should take the metro more often. Automobiles are convenient but taking your time to get to your destination is a pretty cool experience. Do it on the weekends.
